Gellér B. István (Pécs, 09 November 1946 - Pécs, 10 February 2018) was a Hungarian artist, graphic designer, sculptor, teacher[1]. Winner of The Munkácsy Mihály Prize, member of The Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts.[2]
Career[edit]
Born in Pécs. Graduated at the Janus Pannonius Teacher Training College in 1971. His master of arts was Ferenc Martyn. In the 1970's he has begun to work with geometric, neo-constructivist, rhythmical shaped and coloured graphics, paintings, ceramic sculptures and installations. From 1978 he secedes from this kind of impersonal artistic attitude and started to create a personal mythology by the archaeological, ethnic, cultural and historical exploration of a non-existent ancient culture called The Growing City. During the quasi-exploration, the artist and his archaeologist alter-ego creates the rites, traditions and customs of the City’s society. B. Gellér documents the results of the exploration in drawings, paintings, photographs, videos, texts and exhibits them as installations.[3]
