Gene Raymond Cook (born September 1, 1941) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 1975.

Biography[edit]

Cook was born in Lehi, Utah, and raised mostly in Arizona. He served an LDS Church mission in the Paraguay–Uruguay Mission, with J. Thomas Fyans as his mission president, and is fluent in Spanish. After returning to the United States, he married Janelle Schlink in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They are the parents of eight children.

Cook served in the LDS Church as president of local seventies quorum. When his family was young he moved to Bountiful, Utah, and he began church employment as secretary to the First Council of the Seventy.

At the age of 34, Cook became a member of the First Council of the Seventy. He served there for one year and was then transferred to the newly constituted First Quorum of the Seventy. He later served as a mission president. He was designated an emeritus general authority on October 6, 2007.

Cook has written several books dealing mostly with families and faith.
