Stanley Gareld Ellis (born January 22, 1947) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2006.
Ellis was raised on the family farm in Burley, Idaho.
Ellis graduated from Harvard University in government in 1972 and received a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1976. He worked in law and finance and later became chief executive officer of First Meridian, a fanancial services corporation, headquartered in Houston, Texas.
Ellis served previously in the church as a full-time missionary in the Brazilian Mission, as president of the Brazil Sao Paulo North Mission (1999–2002), stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, counselor in a bishopric, elders quorum president, and ward and stake Young Men president. Ellis lived much of his adult life in Texas.
Ellis was serving as an area seventy when he was appointed a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy of the LDS Church on April 1, 2006. He served from 2006 to 2010 as a counselor in the church's Brazil North and Brazil areas. He was transferred to the First Quorum of the Seventy on March 31, 2012 and served from 2014 to 2017 as a counselor in the church's Africa Southeast Area. On September 30, 2017, he was released and designated an emeritus general authority.
On June 7, 1969, Ellis married Kathryn Kloepfer in the Los Angeles Temple and they are the parents of nine children.
