Genevieve Jones-Wright is a public defender who is running to be the District Attorney of San Diego, California in the June 18, 2018 primary election.[1][2][3][4][5] She is a progressive Democrat who supports justice reform,[6] is a defender of the state's cannabis laws,[7][8][9][10] and has served as a public defender in San Diego since 2006.[11][12][13][14] She was once pulled over and handcuffed at gunpoint because of a DMV error that reported her car as stolen; an incident she recorded and published to her Facebook page.[12][15]

Biography[edit]

Jones-Wright is a San Diego native.[12][16] She received her law degree from Howard University School of Law.[4] She decided to study law at age nine after being inspired by Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.[17] She volunteers for the California Innocence Project to free people wrongfully convicted of crimes.[17] She was appointed to the State Bar of California Council on Access and Fairness, and is a commissioner on the San Diego Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention.[18][19]
