The Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines (UP GeogSoc) is an academic student organization based in the University of the Philippines Diliman. Founded on February 2, 1963, it is the oldest existing geography student organization in the university and in the Philippines.[1]

History[edit]

The Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines was founded at the University of the Philippines Diliman by Ricardo S. Domingo, Jr.[2][3], a Geography undergraduate during that time. Its founding adviser is Domingo C. Salita, one of the pioneers of the field of Geography in the Philippines.[4]

On October 15, 2020, the organization made headlines when its open letter to Department of Environment and Natural Resources Undersecretary Benny Antiporda went viral on social media, calling for his resignation due to the remarks he made against the UP Marine Science Institute regarding the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach project.[5][6]
