George Addo Junior (Jnr) is an Award-winning Radio & TV Sports commentator from Ghana with decades of experience covering Sports on the continent of Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the rest of the world.[1][2] He has worked with global media brands such as BBC 5live, BBC World Service, Super Sport, Talk Sport, DW TV, SABC, VOA , and the Multimedia Group on radio, TV, and digital coverage of Club Football Championship Leagues[3], Regional Championships, and World Championships[4].

He is well known for creating and developing content for Ghanaian, African and global audiences through the art of storytelling such as features and documentaries around sports on a wide range of subjects.[5][6][7][8]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Addo Jnr. was in Accra, the capital of Ghana, he attended Presbyterian Boys Secondary School from 2000 - 2003[9]. He holds a Bachelor of Arts of degree in Psychology and Linguistics from the University of Ghana, Legon. In 2008, he obtained an ICAG Part II Certificate from the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana.

Career[edit]

George Addo Jnr's career started from his early University days as a Radio Sports presenter and commentator to being a global Sports journalist with coverage across the continent of Africa and the world at large through commentary and storytelling to project the African Sports narrative in his feature films and documentary series.[10]

In 2012, George Addo Jnr. was appointed Communications Director of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association until early 2015[11][12]. He was also part of the delegation that led Ghana Black Sharks to their first-ever Beach Soccer AFCON in El Jadida, Morocco[13].

Addo Jnr. has interviewed top personalities in Sports including the CAF President, Patrice Motsepe; Dortmund CEO, Carsten Cramer; Liverpool legends such as Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and John Barnes; World Athletics Boss, Lord Coe; football commentators notably; Peter Drury and Jim Berglin amongst other inspiring personalities.[14]

Working with former Tottenham Hotspurs star, Fabrice Muamba on Guinness 'Raise Your Game' (A new weekly football entertainment TV show presented by Benny Bonsu on ViaSat One) with an estimated viewership of 400 million across Africa, Europe, and other regions[15]

Coach Hene Sports Club in 2023 appointed George Addo Jnr as the Director of Communications. He joins the UK-based Sports Club from his current role as Sports Editor at the Multimedia Group Ltd.[16][17]

Radio Univers[edit]

Joining Radio Univers in 2009 as a Level 100 student and becoming the Head of Sports in late 2010. George was the host of Sports Digest; a segment on the Morning show for 4 years.[18][19]He also hosted another show known as Sports Express, which featured guests such as Kwabena Yeboah, Michael Oti Adjei, and Yaw Ampofo Ankrah amongst other Sports Broadcast personalities.

While at Radio Univers George covered two editions of the Ghana Universities Sports Association Games; (2009 and 2011) and two editions of the West Africa University Games (2010 and 2012). George was also part of 2 Bilateral games between the University of Ghana and the University of Ibadan.

He was the first commentator of the University of Ghana Football League and run over 200 live commentaries on Radio Univers.

The Multimedia Group[edit]

His first international career football commentary happened on radio via the Joy FM 99.7 frequency in Accra, Ghana as he run commentary on Spain vs. the Netherlands match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil showcasing his in-depth knowledge of football during the FIFA World Cup tournament[20].

At the Multimedia Group Limited, he hosts and produces various Sports shows across the English sister brands of the group such as Joy Sports Center and LockerRoom on Joy 997FM; Touchline on JoyNews, and Hitz Sports Update on Hitz 103.9FM.

Addo Jnr. has run various football commentaries in English spanning the following[21];

● 3 FIFA World Cup Tournaments including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar[23]

  3. In 2014 he won the best sport journalist for promoting the Ghana Permier League.[25]
