The German Vexillological Association (DGF; German: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Flaggenkunde e.V.) is a German non-profit organization dedicated to the research and promotion of vexillology and related sciences.
History
The DGF was founded on 4 February 1995 by Jörg Karaschewski and Jürgen Rimann[1] in Achim during the third German Meeting of Vexillologists.
Since 1997, the association has been a member of the International Federation of Vexillological Associations (French: Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques, FIAV).
Activities
Since November 1995, the DGF has held annual two-day meetings in different German cities, visited by people from both inside and outside the country. Flags are designed for each meeting and consist of the flag of the association, with the knot replaced by a symbol of the place the meeting is held at.[2]
The DGF publishes the journal Der Flaggenkurier twice a year and the electronic newsletter DGF-Informationen several times a year.[3]
Organization flag
The flag of the DGF was designed by Jürgen Rimann. It consists of the German flag's colours black, red, and gold forming a "V" for the word vexillology. It also has the sheet bend knot of FIAV’s flag, symbolising the sciences of vexillology, the maritime origins of vexillology, and the connections that are created through the work of the association.[3][4]
