The Lise Meitner Society for the Equality of Women in the Sciences and Mathematics in and outside of the academic career (short Lise Meitner Society or LMG (abbr. Lise-Meitner-Gesellschaft)) is a German association founded by young scientists, working for equal opportunities and visualization of Women in STEM subjects.

Goals and Organisation[edit]

The aim of the LMG is the actual gender equality in education and occupation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and in society in general. [1] For this purpose, the LMG promotes the networking and exchange of experience of women of all career levels in all scientific and mathematical disciplines and strengthens students with a scientific and mathematical background and interest.[2]

Another important concern of the LMG is the promotion of the application and implementation of results and recommendations for action in the social sciences, and in particular gender research, as well as the sensitization of the general public to the position of women in science and mathematics. The LMG is divided into nationwide thematic groups as well as regional groups in different cities.

Projects[edit]

The main project of the LMG is the conception, organization and further development of the conference I, Scientist.

I, Scientist – The Conference on Gender, Career Paths and Networking[edit]

I, Scientist is an annual international conference on Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities, Career Pathways and Networks, especially in the (natural sciences, engineering) sciences, mathematics and computer science. It is aimed primarily at students, doctoral candidates and graduates and is supported by many universities, institutes and research organizations.[3][4]

The aim of the conference is to present a variety of career paths that are possible after graduation or doctorate, to discuss problems and solutions, e.g. unconscious, gender-based biases or reconciliation of family and study/work and at the same time but also to visualise inspiring people, especially women, as role models. The conference is open to all gender. [5][6][7]
