Saint Kitts and Nevis

Germany–Saint Kitts and Nevis relations are described by the German Federal Foreign Office as "friendly, but not very deep".[1] This applies to both political and economic relations, which are limited primarily to the export of agricultural products to Germany and tourism, respectively. Other focal points of relations are development policy and cultural projects. For example, Germany provides sporadic aid in the form of microprojects. Diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany have existed since August 27, 1984, less than a year after the independence of the island federation. There have never been diplomatic relations with the GDR.[2]

There are trade and economic partnership agreements between the European Union, on the one hand, and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States or CARIFORUM, on the other, of which St. Kitts and Nevis is a member respectively, including the Cotonou Agreement. Both states also cooperate within the United Nations. Moreover, in September 2016, a bilateral agreement on assistance in tax and fiscal criminal matters through exchange of information, signed in October 2010, entered into force.[3].

Germany does not maintain an embassy in Saint Kitts and Nevis; the German Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago is responsible for relations with the island state. Its ambassador Ute König is also accredited in St. Kitts and Nevis. Furthermore, there is an honorary consulate in Basseterre.[4] For its part, the Caribbean state has no representation in Germany, responsible is the office of the Embassy of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in London.[5].
