Gerry Holloway was a fictional footballer who appeared in the comic strips in the British boys' comic Roy of the Rovers during the 1970s, and 80s. He was a midfielder, playing for Melchester Rovers. He first appeared in the strip in 1976.

Career

Club

On 7 February 1976 Race watched young Holloway, playing for Fourth Division Malbury United and then he signed him for Rovers.

Holloway was signed on from Marlbury United as the replacement for the suddenly retired Jumbo Trudgeon. Injured on a pre-season trip to Crete in the summer of 1980, Holloway would never play for the Rovers again. Carford were interested in signing him up when it became clear his Rovers career was over.

International

Style of play

He played as attacking midfielder, left winger and central midfielder. Holloway was lightning fast and left footed, giving the Rovers balance and allowing Vernon Eliot and Mervyn Wallace to rotate positions along the forward line. Later Holloway would drop into midfield, where his well timed runs into the box would bring vital goals.
