Tactically, Gevorg is capable to play in several midfield positions, but is usually deployed by his clubs as a central midfielder, in the role of a deep-lying playmaker, due to his vision and passing accuracy. Currently he plays for Armenian Premier League club Gandzasar Kapan.

Club career[edit]

Gevorg Ohanyan was born in Yerevan, and began his career at the Banants football academy. In 2007, due to his achievements within juniors he was noticed and promoted to the Banants major team at the age of 15 by then team manager Nikolay Kostov. In 2008, he was a captain of Armenia national under-17 football team, which, in order to obtain practice, formed the Patani club and played in the Armenian First League. In Patani Gevorg made his debut in the 2008 Armenian Cup playing against then Armenian Premier Leaguechampion Pyunik, where he scored a goal from the center of the field. His debut in the Armenian Premier League took place in 04.04.2009 against Gandzasar Kapan, when they won 1:0. One month later by scoring his first goal in Armenian Premier League against Shirak in 30.05.09 he became the youngest goal scorer in Banants history at the age 17 years 121 days.[1]

His career was temporarily interrupted by mandatory two-year military service.

In 2012, the next two years he played for various Armenian Premier League teams among them Ararat Yerevan and Alashkert[2]. Meantime, in 2013-2014 season he became top scorer of Armenian First League by scoring 21 goals[3]. Then he continued his career abroad by signing contract with Homenetmen Beirut in 2014. During three years in Homenetmen he made 64 appearances, scored 31 goals and performed 24 assists. In 2018 he returned to Armenia signing 6-month contract with Ararat Yerevan, where he played half of the season. During that season he played 15 games made 4 goals and performed 8 assists. According to an online Armenian outlet he was considered among top 3 footballers of the season[4]. In July, 2018 he moved to Gandzasar Kapan.

International career[edit]

His first appearance at the international level in senior career was in July 2018 against Lech Poznań within 2018–19 UEFA Europa League qualification.

Personal life[edit]

Gevorg Ohanyan served in the Armenian Army in 2010-2012. He is married and has a daughter.
