Ghofeyleh prayers
Ghofeyleh prayers (Persian:نماز غفیله) (Arabic:صلاة الغفيلة) The prayers are Mustahabb in Shia Islam. This prayer is performed between the Maghrib prayer and Isha prayer. Ghofeyleh prayers consist of two Rakat, which are performed after Maghrib prayer.[1] In the first Rakat of Ghofeyleh, after the Sura Al-Fatiha, Ayah 87 and 88 of Sura Al-Anbiya are to be read. And in the second Rakat, after Sura Al-Fatiha, Ayah 59 of Sura Al-An'am is read."[2]"[3]
Philosophy of Ghofeyleh prayers
One of the reasons why it is recommended to say ghofeyleh prayers is that Jonah neglected [God] for a second, so he was separated from his tribe and his faith grafted by fish and sea, and then God blessed him and saved him from the fish's stomach. Muhammad, the Islamic prophet, emphasized saying this special prayer because of saving us from external and inward cruelty that we neglect and perpetrate every day."[4]
Ghofeyleh prayers and repentance of Yazid
Some have claimed: Yazid I ibn Mu'awiya after the killing of Husayn ibn Ali (AS) and viewing public discontent, asked Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin whether repentance and salvation were possible. Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin said to him if Ghofeyleh prayers are read, God will save you. Zaynab bint Ali asked Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin: Is the killer taught repentance by his father? Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin replied: He will not be able to do this prayer. This Hadith is not quoted [in] authoritative sources, [and] there are also objections to its content."[5]"[6]"[7]
