Personal Life[edit]
Gigi was born on September 24, 1996 in Olongapo City, Zambales. At an early age, she and her mother moved to Laguna. She studied at Calamba Doctors' College, and at Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
GMA (2007, 2013)[edit]
Gigi joined the reality talent competition Popstar Kids, finishing as a grand finalist on its 2nd season. Gigi would later appear on several shows, including SOP, where she performed regularly as a member of Sugarpop—a group consisting of prominent Popstar Kids contestants until it disbanded in 2009.
A few years later, she joined Eat Bulaga!'s Ikaw at Echo: Ka-Voice ni Idol. An impression contest for singers, Gigi placed as a grand finalist. She impersonated award-winning singer and actress, Jennifer Hudson.
Tawag ng Tanghalan Era (2016-2020)[edit]
Daily Rounds[edit]
Gigi auditioned for Tawag ng Tanghalan's revival season in 2016.[2]. She advanced to the January 27th, 2016 Daily Round of the competition where she sang Regine Velasquez' version of 'Araw-Gabi'[3]—which propelled her to fame. According to Gigi, the song was taught to her by the late Lorenz Arquero, the owner of the band Serenata's New Perspective, om which she performed.
Gigi won the Daily Round, allowing her to have a shot at bestowing the Golden Microphone. This time, she sang Wicked's Defying Gravity[4]. At the end of her duel with the defending champion, she won with 94.6%[5] and would go on to defend her title.
She went on to be the contest's defending champion until her fifth win[6], which secured her a spot in the semi-finals. She then decided to continue to compete until 2 wins later, she then lost her title by a needle—1 point[7]. The songs she sang from her first until last appearance as a contender/defending champion are as follows:

Quarter I Semi-finals Results
Contestant | Judges' Score | Total Text Votes | Final Score |
---|---|---|---|
Mary Gidget Dela Llana | 97.32% | 22.09% | 86.53% |
After almost a week, the 1st Quarter Semi-finals concluded with Gigi, snatching the first spot in the Grand Finals, garnering a final score of 86.53%, accumulated from the combined scores of the judges, and text votes.[30]
'Ang Huling Tapatan' (Grand Finals)[edit]
Due to the number of Grand Finalists, they had to perform in batches. The week-long battle for the championship started on March 6, 2017, but Gigi hadn't performed until a day later. For every day of the grand finals, one finalist is chosen to advance to the final showdown by the end of the week. Gigi wasn't selected when their batched performed on Tuesday. She had another chance on Thursday, but still wasn't picked. She had a final chance on Friday, but ended up losing.
The whole week was aired live from Monday-Thursday, and the final day on Saturday. In an unusual decision by the management, they had to tape Friday's episode on the night after the Thursday episode, reasoning that the finalists need to prepare for Saturday's big day. As a result, text votes from viewers had to be pulled out from the computation of scores, and the finalists' grade came solely from the judges.
Gigi, after the episode was taped, revealed to have fainted and was pulled out of the studio on a stretcher, and was rushed to the hospital. Viewers, and supporters expressed concern over the event, citing that Gigi's voice was hoarse and was fatigued from preparations and the actual performances, not to mention her ongoing sickness then.
The songs she performed for the grand finals were as follows:
Daily Rounds | Song | Artist | Score | Rank | Result | Final Rank | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Round 1 | Tuesday | 'Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan' | Basil Valdez | 42.20% | 10th | Advanced | 10th |
Round 2 | Thursday | 'Lady Marmalade' | Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa, Pink | 51.69% | 8th | Advanced | |
Round 3 | Friday | 'Hero' | Mariah Carey | 69.80% | 6th | Eliminated |
Post-competition[edit]
Gigi continued to be a guest performer for the following seasons of the competition, as well as its spin-off segment TNT All-Star Showdown. Gigi would also later perform on It's Showtime's non-TNT related segments, such as its opening production numbers. She also appeared as a guest on Showtime Online, even during the competition.
Gigi also appeared on multiple television, radio, and online programs, since joining TNT. Some of them include guestings on Umagang Kay Ganda, Magandang Buhay, and ASAP as a guest performer, occasionally with her fellow TNT Divas. She also appeared as a contestant on Minute to Win It and Family Feud, with her Tawag ng Tanghalan colleagues.
TNT: All-Star Grand Resbak[edit]
In November 2019, Ultimate Resbakers and semi-finalists from seasons 1 to 3 and Celebrity Champions, who failed to advance to the Live Finale of the week-long Grand Finals of their respective seasons, were summoned to compete once again in this spin-off of Tawag ng Tanghalan. Gigi was a member of Team Bagsik but hadn't appeared to be one of the contenders until the third week. However, she was seen in some promo spots and behind-the-scenes, moments with her other team members.
She did appear for three days before getting picked to represent the team on her fourth day. She won the Seat of Power on that day and a cash prize of ₱25,000. She advanced to compete the following day but was introduced to a new format that introduced dissolving all teams. Thus, she was forced to play on unlike her teammates who previously competed, who had the option to step down the Seat of Power—a power which has been overused by all teams.
The new format was a 4-way battle. The contenders seating on the Seat of Power had freedom in choosing their opponents. Gigi, at the end of the episode, lost her seat and was given an additional ₱5,000 as a consolation prize.

GG Vibes[edit]
Gigi and her band, Gigi Vibes have occasionally live streamed their jamming sessions, even their gigs, in the past years. Gigi also at times live streamed on her own Facebook account, live streaming isn't novel to her.
Season 1 (June-September 2020)[edit]
Upon the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the eventual cease and desist of ABS-CBN, she eventually returned to it via her official Facebook page by late June 2020. Initially, the title of her live gig stream was 'Kabogera sa Live', with Gigi, initially joined by her pianist, Jon Cruz (June-July 2020, September 2020-present[note 1]).
The succeeding live gig streams were titled 'GG Vibes' (alternatively, 'GGVibes'). This time, in addition to Gigi and her pianist, they were also joined by her saxophonist Eljin Del Rosario (June 2020- July 2020[note 1]), her drummer Romeo Marquez (June-July 2020, September 2020-present[note 1]), her bassist Jake Manalo (June-July 2020, January 2021-present[note 1]), and her rhythm guitarist LA Arquero (January 2021-present[note 1]).
Since its inception, the stream has entertained song requests from its viewers. Although not mandatory, viewers were encouraged to support the live stream by sending any amount through online payment such as GCash. The stream, as well as her YouTube content, is produced in Tritone Studios, owned by Erwin Lacsa.
Season 2 (September 2020-present)[edit]
Gigi kicked-off the second season in the following week, on September 27, 2020. The show only included Gigi and Jon, and was themed '80s Rewind'. The episode was also her last episode before going on a hiatus.
GG Vibes did return by late November, starting a fundraising campaign. The show returned to its regular editions by February 20, 2021.
Guests[edit]
Occasionally, the show would have special guests, that join Gigi, and the band.
Guests include:
- Sofronio Vasquez III
- VJ Caber
- Anthony Castillo
GG Vibes on Kumu (2021-present)[edit]
During the 'Big 4 Hours with Kumu Stars' digital event on March 19, 2021, artists under ABS-CBN gathered in a four hour show[31]. Gigi, a member of Rise Artists Studio (a an artist management division of ABS-CBN's Star Magic), was featured as a guest, along with other members of the aforementioned artist division. Gigi announced that GG Vibes will make its Kumu comeback, permanently. The show, however, is under Rise Artists Studio, and Star Magic, rather than being under Gigi and her team. The production of the stream, still is under Tritone Studios.
It's first episode immediately aired later in the night, lasting the usual 4 hours. It was then, however, followed by another episode, on the following Saturday afternoon—a contrast to its usual late night airing. The succeeding episode after that, was on the following Wednesday afternoon. Even so, GG Vibes continued its Wednesday and Saturday night shows.
Hiatuses[edit]
Band absence[edit]
From episodes 6-12, which spanned from July 2020-September 2020, Gigi started live streaming by herself. Members of the band were extremely busy with their other endeavors. In those episodes, the stream featured a theme. Usually an artist's songs are sang on the first set, the second set was dedicated for viewer requests. Among the episodes featured were:
EP | Theme | Date | |
---|---|---|---|
6 | Ariana Grande songs | July 22 | |
7 | Demi Lovato songs | July 29 | |
8 | Set 1 | Avril Lavigne songs | August 5 |
Set 2 | Paramore songs | ||
9 | Pink songs | August 12 | |
10 | Disney songs | August 19 | |
11 | The Carpenters songs | August 30 | |
12 | Katy Perry songs | September 19 |
Gigi's Sick Leave[edit]
Gigi took a rest from hosting GG Vibes from a then concurring canker sore, causing the show to be shelved temporarily by mid-August. She was able to live stream by late August, but not presented as GG Vibes. She did recover partially and was able to stream another episode of GG Vibes on August 30. However, her canker sore worsens, hence, she took some time off, initially for an unspecific amount of time. She then returned two weeks later, on September 19, excellently recovered.
Priority Project[edit]
GG Vibes, once again, halted weekly episodes, but this time, for almost two months. The hiatus was explained in advance, on the September 27 episode. She told viewers that she was doing a project for the whole month of October, and that it would be then released in November. She gave no further details on the matter.
Concerts[edit]
'New Hope: The End of the TNT Era'[edit]
A week after Episode 12, Gigi did her first-ever digital concert, which also served as a birthday concert. The concert titled, 'New Hope: The End of the TNT Era', signified the end of a chapter of her singing career, and plausibly foreshadowed her new venture on ABS-CBN.
As the title may have hinted, she paid tribute to her journey as a Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant. She once again sang all of the musical pieces she used in the more than a year competition. The concert was also the first time that her pianist, Jon, and her drummer, Romeo, joined her after almost two months.
In addition to her, she also had special guests that include her 'Tawag Ng Tanghalan' Season 1 colleagues, Jex De Castro, Eumee Capile, and Rachel Gabreza, and also Sofronio Vasquez, another 'Tawag Ng Tanghalan' colleague, from Season 2. There were other guests as well that included some of her fans who gave birthday messages for her. All of which, joined Gigi via Zoom.
The latter part of the concert highlighted the presents that people sent her including gifts from her sponsors and her fans. Finally, she showed off and wished on the cakes sent to her, including one from Star Cinema.
'Heartbeat' (Valentine Concert)[edit]
After the first two days of its Valentine Specials, The 'Heartbeat' series ended with a fundraising valentine concert, which would be the last GG Vibes episode to have its received donations be dedicated to Gigi's Mother, after almost 4 months. The concert featured Anthony Castillo, and VJ Caber, as its guests.
Specials[edit]
Fundraising Livestream for Gigi's Mom[edit]
On November 27, 2020, GG Vibes returned, renamed 'Gigi Vibes' (apparently to reflect the change from Gigi's real name, to her screen name). The comeback also featured a platform shift. From Facebook, the stream aired on Kumu. Gigi revealed that the stream was a fundraising campaign for her mom, initially hiding its cause. Upon the rise of her viewers' curiosity, she revealed that her mother has Stage 4 Breast cancer.
Viewers were again asked to send donations, by sending virtual gifts. The stream did simulcast on Facebook, but audience traffic mostly focused on Kumu. A few episodes later, GG Vibes reverted to Facebook and ceased its Kumu cast, due to discrepancies with the currency difference between the national currency, and Kumu's currency.
This special edition ended with a fundraising valentine concert on February 14, 2021.
Thanksgiving Show[edit]
A special thanksgiving edition of GG Vibes was broadcast on December 15, 2020. The special was done in acknowledgement of the support given by the viewers, most especially, the donors. The viewers of the edition were asked to refrain sending contributions, as the show's aim to give back to its audience. However, a lot of donations still poured in.
Christmas Special[edit]
The special still featured requests from viewers, although most of its block was occupied by Christmas songs.
'Heartbeat' (Valentine Specials)[edit]
This special edition streamed on February 12, and 13, followed up by a fundraising concert on Valentine's Day. The show guested VJ Caber, and Anthony Castillo.
Juggernaut: The Launch[edit]
This special aired on March 6, instigating Juggernaut—a new uprising jug brand. The one-night special, besides Gigi and the band performing songs, they gave away prizes. One of them were free jugs from Juggernaut, of which 2 were given. 10 jackets were also given, the same as the band and Gigi wear, on occasion.
Easter Special[edit]
The special streamed on April 4. The show initially featured praise songs, but was overshadowed by requests from the viewers.
Rise Artists Studio (2020-present)[edit]
A few weeks after revealing Gigi joining the cast of Four Sisters Before the Wedding—a prequel to the 2013 movie Four Sisters and a Wedding, Rise Artists Studio, an artist management division of Star Magic, announced that it was welcoming a new member. On a special edition of 'We Rise Together', on December 2, 2020, Gigi was welcomed by other members of Rise[32]
Hours after her inauguration, she had her first press conference, and was asked questions by the press. In that press meet, she was asked about how she was discovered by Rise. She replied,
I was discovered by Rise through Ma'am Charo, she was the one who discovered me. She saw one of my videos where I sang 'We've Only Just Begun', where I was in a green dress. I wasn't expecting to be added [as a member of Rise]. Then, that was it. After that, Ma'am JD called, Sir Mico called, so that was how it started[33]
When she was asked about using a screen name in place of her real name, she said,
Yes, the management [decided on the name change]. But, the agreement was with both sides, so we decided to change the name.
Ever since joining, Gigi has taken part in some episodes of WRT as a co-host. Gigi also, like other members of Rise, got their own Kumu live streams on 'Rise Here, Right Now'. She also attended workshops and training.
