Gilda Manolescu (July 15, 1974 – September 23, 2008) was a Romanian film actress.
Biography
Gilda Manolescu gained wide fame as a child after playing the leading role of Maria in the Romanian-Soviet fantasy Maria, Mirabela (1981), directed by Ion Popescu-Gopo in collaboration with Natalia Bodiul. The film was popular in multiple countries of the Eastern bloc.
After the premiere of the film, her mother, Dana Manolescu, married a German and moved to Germany with Gilda and her younger brother. Dana was a famous ballerina and choreographer and opened a ballet school where her daughter also studied. Later, the mother returned to Romania and currently works at the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest.
She was involved in a car accident caused by her drug-addict boyfriend, spent a long time recovering from her injuries, and as a result had to abandon her ballet career. She moved to Berlin, where she worked as a florist.
At the age of 34, she was kidnapped off the street by a recently released criminal who sprayed her in the face, dragged her into a car, and then raped her for three days. This completely undermined her health. She died in hospital from kidney failure, which developed against the background of traumatic shock.
