Gilded Lilys is an American period drama television pilot that was in development for ABC. The pilot was created and produced by Shonda Rhimes. The series was not picked up by ABC.

Development[edit]

The network ordered the pilot on January 13, 2012,[1][2] and filming began in late March 2012 at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.[3] In addition to K.J. Steinberg, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers served as executive producers.[4]

Plot[edit]

The series, set in 1895, follows the lives of the Lily family, their employees, and their establishment and management of the first luxury hotel in New York City.[5]

  • John Barrowman as Julius Ashford Lily, the charming son of the central family in the show[6]
  • Blythe Danner as Caroline Lily, the ruthless but wickedly funny matriarch who has ruled the roost of New York society for decades.[7]
  • Sarah Bolger as Violet Langton Lily, the wealthy, aristocratic and rebellious daughter of hotel owners Edwin and Elizabeth Lily.[7]
  • Matt Long as John Kidd, a lower-class survivor with an adventurous spirit and a romantic soul.[8]

  • Brigid Brannagh as Elizabeth, another matriarch of the Lily family[8]
  • Matt Lauria as Charlie, the nephew of a millionaire and boyfriend of the rebellious Violet Lily[9]
