Giorgio Fossa (Gallarate, September 1, 1954) is an Italian entrepreneur who was president of Confindustria from 1996 to 2000.

History

After graduating from Law School, he joined the family business founded by his grandfather, Silvio Fossa S.p.A., which today is a leader in the construction of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders for the steel, petrochemical, geothermal and naval sectors. From his father he learned a passion for innovation, while from his mother a passion for investment. During his guidance, he diversified the business, investing in companies operating in the manufacturing sector but also in the financial sector.[2][3]

In his early thirties, he joined Confindustria, of which he became a Board Member in 1992, Vice President in 1993, and then President after three years, becoming the youngest president of the association representing manufacturing and service companies in Italy, from 1996 to 2000.[4]

Around those years, he joined the Board of Il Sole 24 Ore, becoming its Chairman between 1995 and 1996, and then again between 2016 and 2018.[5]

Since 1997 he has been a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association pour l'Union Monétaire de l'Europe (AUME),[6] while from 1999 to 2003 he served as Chairman and CEO of SEA, which manages Milan's airport system.[7][8]

From 1996 he became a Director of LUISS Guido Carli,[9] from 1998 a Member of the Board of Directors of Libero Istituto Universitario Cattaneo (LIUC) and, from 2009 President of Fondimpresa, the interprofessional fund for continuing education managed by Confindustria. Since May 2018, he joined 24ORE Business School as President, appointed by Palamon Capital Partners.[10][11]
