Giorgos Kouris (Greek: Γιώργος Κουρής) (February 10 1937 – April 20 2018) was a Greek journalist, editor and entrepreneur.
Biography[edit]
Early life[edit]
Kouris was born in 1937 in Argostoli, a small town on the island of Kefalonia. His brother Makis is also a journalist and entrepereneur.
Career in journalism[edit]
He was the founder of the TV station Alter Channel and also of the athletic newspaper O Filathlos and the political newspaper Avriani, all of which are now defunct.
In 2010, he founded a new TV station called Kontra Channel and in 2013 founded a new political newspaper called Kontra News.
Arrest[edit]
In 2013, he was arrested for excessive public debt and remanded for a month and a half, a case for which he was finally acquitted in 2017.
Death[edit]
Kouris died on April 30 2018 after a battle of cancer at the age of 81. He is buried in his hometown of Kefalonia.
Family and Personal life[edit]
He married Konstantina Kozyri, daughter of the Areopagite Antonis Kozyris, and they had a son, Andreas Kouris and who carries on in his father's work.
