Glaucoma UK

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Glaucoma UK is a charity in the United Kingdom for people affected by the eye disease glaucoma.

The charity was launched in 1974 under the name International Glaucoma Association, which it still uses as its trading name. It officially re-branded to Glaucoma UK in 2020 with the aim of reaching more people with glaucoma.[1]

The aims of the charity are to help prevent glaucoma blindness by raising awareness about the disease to encourage early diagnosis, supporting those who have glaucoma with the management of their condition, and supporting research.[2]

The charity's patron is Dame Maggie Smith.[3]

Services[edit]

The charity provides a number of services to both its members and those in the wider UK community. They include a quarterly magazine, a helpline providing support and advice, an online forum to help combat loneliness and isolation, free information materials such as booklets and leaflets, and support groups and webinars with information on various topics around glaucoma.
