Glen Coulter was the founder of Glen Coulter Financial Services Ltd in Ottawa. In 1985 Glen Coulter Financial Services Ltd handled 50% of the 5,000 mortgages in the city. He started his business in 1974 after a career with the CIBC. He is credited with transforming the mortgage business in Canada from a shady money lending business into an efficient and respectable neighbourhood institution.
Before he arrived on the scene applicants for mortgages had to wait fourteen days to have their mortgage approved. Coulter changed that to 48 hours when he started his business and by 1985 a customer could get approved in fifteen minutes over the phone.
The success of his company was attributed to hard work.[1]
