Glen McAuley (born 24 February 2000) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for League of Ireland Premier Division club Bohemians, having previously spent 5 months with St Patrick's Athletic, after spending 6 years with Liverpool.

Club career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Growing up in the Jobstown area of Tallaght in Dublin,[1] McAuley started off playing his youth football with Crumlin United, he then followed his Crumlin manager to St Joseph's Boys. He later played for Cherry Orchard before moving to Liverpool.[1]

Liverpool[edit]

On 29 April 2014, McAuley signed a pre-contract with Liverpool, allowing him sign a full contract when he turned 17.[2] McAuley moved to Liverpool aged 13, attending school at Rainhill High School, a public school which acts as the Academy Education Centre for Liverpool FC, meaning his fellow youth players attended school with him.[1]

McAuley came through the ranks with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn, Harry Wilson, Rhian Brewster, Ovie Ejaria, Sheyi Ojo, Rafael Camacho, Pedro Chirivella, Conor Masterson, Corey Whelan and Caoimhín Kelleher among others.[3]

In his first season with Steven Gerrard's under 18's in 2016–17 he scored an impressive 16 goals in 26 league games.[4] The following season he scored 9 league goals in 18 games and also made his first appearance with the reserve team, coming off the bench against West Ham United Reserves on 17 February 2018.[5]

On 7 June 2019, it was announced that McAuley, along with fellow Irishmen Conor Masterson and Corey Whelan, were released by Liverpool.[6]

St Patrick's Athletic[edit]

It was announced on 26 July 2019 that McAuley had signed an 18-month contract with Dublin club St Patrick's Athletic, given the number 21 shirt, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2020 season.[7] He made his debut in senior football on 2 August 2019, coming off the bench away to Cork City as his side won 1–0 thanks to a 91st minute winner from fellow debutant Ronan Hale.[8] McAuley came on from the bench in the 61st minute of the next game, an FAI Cup game against Bray Wanderers, scoring in the winner in the 74th minute of his home debut, for his first senior goal.[9] This earned McAuley his first senior start a week later at home to Sligo Rovers in the league. He scored the equaliser in the 51st minute as Pat's went on to win 2–1.[10] It was announced on the 6th November 2019 that McAuley had been released a year early by new Pat's manager Stephen O'Donnell having failed to impress him in his 7 games in charge.[11]

Bohemians[edit]

On the 3rd December 2019, Bohemians announced that they had signed McAuley from Dublin rivals St Patrick's Athletic.[12][13]
