Glenn Yong (Chinese: 容启航; pinyin: Róng Qǐ Háng; born 10 October 1996)[1] is a Singaporean actor and singer. Yong is notable for playing the role of 'Sergeant Chow' in the Ah Girls Go Army million box office sales movie series by director Jack Neo. [2][3][4]
Early Life and Education[edit]
Glenn Yong is born on 10 October 1996 in Singapore. He is the youngest in the family with an older brother.[5] Yong first aspired to be an activist fighting for different causes, with his main focus being the youth to be unimpeded in realising their potential and working towards their dreams.[6] He hopes to achieve through his work and being in a position of influence.[7] Yong’s biggest inspiration is Leonardo DiCaprio, who ignited his interest in an acting career.[8]
Yong attended Peicai Secondary School and Temasek Polytechnic.[9] After National Service, Yong studied at Murdoch University and graduated in October 2020, with a Degree in Marketing.[10]
Career[edit]
In 2019, Yong made his acting debut with a supporting role in The Good Fight (致胜出击).[11]
In 2020, Yong was offered a lead role in the idol web series Victory Lap (水漾少年) working alongside Thailand GMM artiste Earth Pirapat Watthanasetsiri.[12][13]
Yong released his first single 妈妈好 on May 2020. He wrote the lyrics for the song and the song was dedicated to his mother.
In September 2021, Yong starred in his breakout role as 孙易安[14], the male lead role in the musical drama series, Live Your Dreams (大大的梦想).[15] Yong's first solo Original Television Soundtrack SubTheme Song, 幸福的未来, was also released together with the drama series in Live Your Dreams (Original Television Soundtrack) Album.
In September 2021, Yong got to sing the OST 幸福的未来 for his drama Live Your Dreams 大大的梦想. The song garnered close to 200k streams on Spotify and ranked number 4 in Singapore Top Charts for a few weeks in a row.[16]
In October 2021, Yong was offered his first film lead role in a movie when he was cast as the male lead for Jack Neo's Ah Girls Go Army with the role of Sergeant Chow.[17][18][19]
In March 2022, Yong was invited to perform live at National Stadium for "Relay For Life 2022" event organized by Singapore Cancer Society, of which President Halimah Yacob attended as the Guest-of-Honour. [20]
