Gloria James

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Gloria Marie James (born February 4, 1968) is an American socialite, activist, and mother to NBA star LeBron James. She is known for her advocacy for youth empowerment and active role in supporting her son's basketball career.

Early Life and Family[edit]

Gloria James was born to Freda James and Eddie V. Jackson in Akron, Ohio.[1] Freda was just 16 at the time of Gloria's birth, and Eddie wasn't involved in her upbringing. She has two brothers, Terry, and Curt James.[2]

In 1984, at age 16, Gloria became pregnant and gave birth to LeBron James.[3] She raised him with the help of her mother, but when Gloria was 19, her mother passed away and left her as a single mother, often struggling to provide for LeBron.[3][1] LeBron's father, Anthony McClelland, has an extensive criminal background and did not pay child support.[4] In an interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols, LeBron described their early years as "very difficult," and he recounted times when they moved frequently and lived with friends or in their car.[5]

Career[edit]

Gloria James has been involved in various business ventures and philanthropic endeavors. She serves as vice-president and has been a passionate supporter of the LeBron James Family Foundation, which seeks to improve children's education in underserved communities.[3] She is the CEO of the Gloria James Foundation, an organization focused on helping underserved communities.[6] She is an active investor and has been featured in Forbes for her success.[6] She has established multiple scholarship programs for students and is passionate about giving back.[6]

Controversies[edit]

When LeBron was a senior in high school, Gloria gifted him a $50,000 Hummer. She was said to have financed the car with a loan, which was questionable because they lived in public housing at the time.[7] Officials were worried that James violated his amateur status by accepting an improper gift[8] but he was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing.[9]

In 2006 she was arrested for drunken driving. She posted a $2,500 bond and was released.[10]

In April 2011, Gloria was arrested in Miami for assaulting a parking attendant. Later, Gloria pleaded guilty, paid a fine, and donated money to charity to complete a community service program.[11]
