Glory to Hong Kong
Glory to Hong Kong (Chinese: 願榮光歸香港) is a Cantonese song produced during the 2019 Hong Kong protests. Many protestors mentioned that the song is Hong Kong's unofficial national anthem, and it has become a theme song for the movement.[1]
Background[edit]
The song was first uploaded onto YouTube on 31 August, 2019. It was composed by "Thomas dgx yhl" (a pseudonym), a local musician, and a group of un-named netizens (Internet users). An English version was also produced.[2] An orchestral MV production with chorus was uploaded to YouTube on 11 September, 2019.[3]
On 10 September 2019, Hong Kong supporters sung the song for the first time at the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[4] On that same night, the song was also sung at dozens of shopping malls all around Hong Kong.[5]
Where did the name mean?[edit]
The word glory (榮光) in the song title means honor (榮) and brilliance (光).
