Management Team[edit]

History[edit]

GoStudent was founded in Vienna in 2016 by Felix Ohswald (CEO) and Gregor Müller (COO) after receiving investment from a Business Angel. In 2020, GoStudent expanded beyond the DACH region, offering its services in France and Spain[2], and opened its first international office in Lyon. Left Lane Capital and DN Capital invested €13.3m, allowing for rapid growth[3] In the first quarter of 2021, GoStudent expanded to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Russia. In 2021 GoStudent reached €1.4bn valuation, securing its Unicorn status and becoming the most valuable EdTech start-up company in Europe[4]. In the same year, GoStudent acquired the Austrian EdTech start-up, Fox Education Services[5]. Fox Education Services developed SchoolFox, KidsFox, and TeamFox; all apps that help to connect students, parents, and teachers. Just seven months after its Series C investment, GoStudent raises a Series D round of €300 million and more than doubles its company valuation to €3 billion in January 2022. Also, GoStudent acquires two further companies: Seneca Learning and TusMedia.

Acquisitions[edit]

Fox Education In September 2021 GoStudent acquired Fox Education Services GmbH, an Austrian all-in-one school communication solution, whose apps are known as SchoolFox, KidsFox and TeamFox. One of the main purposes for Fox Education to be taken over by GoStudent, was the option for them to benefit GoStudent’s strong International position. About Fox. With the acquisition of Fox Education, GoStudent expanded its education service portfolio into the school sector. The combination of in-school communication services and affordable, top-quality after-school learning support adds significant value for families and educators.

In February 2022, GoStudent announced the acquisition of two established European education companies. The company will extend its product offering through the integration of algorithmic learning content via the acquisition of Seneca Learning, and will increase its access to the addressable market by acquiring Tus Media, which provides an open tutoring marketplace. Both acquired companies continued operating independently under their current leadership teams and with their established brand names.

Seneca Learning With approximately seven million students using Seneca Learning, the company is considered to be the fastest-growing freemium homework and revision platform in the UK. The EdTech company uses algorithms to help students remember topics more easily. Children can choose from more than 1,000 KS2, KS3, GCSE & A-Level courses, developed based on exam board specifications. With the acquisition[6], GoStudent aimed to integrate Seneca Learning’s algorithms and AI-based features into the GoStudent membership, enriching the experience of its students. Not only can Seneca Learning be used during tutoring sessions, it will also provide students with smart learning content that will help them to memorise subject material at their own pace outside of lessons as well.

Tus Media Founded in 2011, the Spanish based company Tus Media offers an open marketplace for tutors serving four million students. The company brings together teachers, students and academies to arrange online or offline tutoring sessions, based on the user's preferences. The company’s first service, Tus clases particulares, is now a leading marketplace for connecting students with teachers in Spain, and has grown quickly in several European and LATAM countries. Tus Media’s second venture, Classgap, provides a virtual classroom delivering individualised teaching experiences remotely. With the acquisition, GoStudent aimed to leverage the strategic fit between the two platforms[7]. Expanding its offering allowed GoStudent to grow its addressable market and reach more families globally. Additionally, students seeking structured, sustainable, long-term tutoring support will be able to access managed tutoring services from GoStudent via Tus Media's platforms.
