Going Dark (2022) is a photo coffee-table book by Australian photographer Troy David Johnston. The photo book contains a series of images of the closed theatres across the West End and Greater London during the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic. Along side the images are testimonials and commentaries from a range of theatre professionals that speak to their memories of these theatres and their experience of the closures.

The first editions of the book (ISBN: 978-1-3999-1378-2) were published in April 2022 by Matcham Books in the United Kingdom.

Style[edit]

The images in the series are predominantly in black and white, but also contain sections in colour. These sections are usually the theatre marquee or a distinct architectural element to a particular theatre. There are a mixture of wide angle shots of almost deserted streets where the theatres are located, to shots of the building facades, through to close ups of locked stage doors.
