Early life and education[edit]
Klein grew up in Detroit, where he attended the city schools.[1] He has a BBA from the Ross School of Business of the University of Michigan and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School.[2]
Attendance policy controversy[edit]
In 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, Klein received media attention for his attendance policies in response to a request by a Black student for an exemption to an exam.[3] After outcry by student groups, he was placed on leave by officials of the UCLA School of Management. After an investigation, the school reinstated Klein three weeks later.[4]
