GotChosen is the internet software development company that created a native social media platform distributed across web sites and blogs.[1] Rather than driving traffic away from websites, GotChosen is embedded into them, allowing customers to experience social media without leaving the website they are viewing.[2]

The company develops advertising and marketplace software that does not require collecting and tracking user data, offers deletion functionality and doesn't utilize behavioral targeting or data brokering on GotChosen.[3]

GotChosen is headquartered in Orlando, FL.[4]

The Native Social Network[edit]

GotChosen's native social network is a social media platform that mixes public online communities (called channels) with private social feeds.[5] Like subreddits, channels on GotChosen are visible to the public, though contributing to them requires registration. Posts in channels can be voted up or down. Members accumulate reputation according to how their posts are voted.

A member's social feed is a private place to stay connected to friends and family. Posts made to a social feed are only visible to the member's connections.

The native social network is the first phase of GotChosen's strategy to create a personalized social network that lives on other websites and fuses social media, online advertising, and shopping in one place.[6] Its Beta launched in December 2014 and quickly went international.

History[edit]

GotChosen, Inc. was founded in 2011 by Osvaldo "Oz" Silva.[7] While inventing the technology behind the decentralized alternative to online advertising and social media, Oz Silva established a philanthropic and innovative strategy to build a brand and create an online presence by awarding college scholarships.[8] The company's business model was created to close gaps and resolve problems in these industries by reshaping the landscape of the internet.[9]

GotChosen.com was launched as a scholarship website in May 2012 and has over one million users registered. The company has awarded 46 scholarships.[10]

In December 2014, the GotChosen Beta was launched as a native social network. Thirty websites participated in the Beta.

Scholarships[edit]

GotChosen has run multiple scholarship programs:

  • a monthly $1,000 scholarship [11]
  • periodic $40K and $20K scholarships [12]
  • scholarships for videos and video games (Evolution Games).[13]
  • a monthly $5,000 Social Network Scholarship.[14]

In June 2015, GotChosen switched to running a single monthly $5,000 Social Network Scholarship. Each month, the user who receives the most up-votes on a post wins the $5,000 scholarship.[15]
