'Greg Gebhardt (born October 7, 1980) is a Republican candidate for Lieutenant_Governor_of_North_Carolina. He is a Major in the North Carolina National Guard and a business consultant.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Gebhardt was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and spent his childhood growing up in rural northwestern Pennsylvania. He attended [[General McLane High School]] where he was a member of several athletic teams and captained the football team.

Following high school, he attended Mount Union College in [[Alliance, Ohio]] where he participated in intercollegiate football. He was a member of the 1999 NCAA Division III semi-finalist Purple Raider football squad.

Military career[edit]

Gebhardt enlisted in the United States Army in June 2000 as a Bridge Crewman and reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for training. His commander recommended him for appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point in the Spring of 2001.

Gebhardt entered West Point in the summer of 2002 after the successful completion of the United States Military Academy Preparatory School. During his time at West Point he served, and continues to serve, as Vice President of his graduating class. While studying Constitutional law, he penned his senior thesis on Megan's Law.

In May 2006 he received a commission in the United States Army as an Engineer officer. After stops for training at both [[Fort Sill, Oklahoma]] and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Gebhardt reported to his first assignment as a platoon leader with the 27th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Gebhardt served as the aide-de-camp to the Deputy Commanding General for Operations, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, North Carolina from February 19, 2009 to June 9, 2010. During his time as an aide-de-camp, he deployed to Haiti in support of Operation Unified Response following the devastating [[2010 Haiti earthquake]]. He was also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn and served as the Commander of Headquarters Support Company, Task Force Dragon, United States Forces - Iraq.

Upon returning from Iraq, Gebhardt left the active duty Army and joined the North Carolina National Guard. Gebhardt served in Raleigh assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters where he supported many state active duty missions related to adverse weather. In the fall of 2018, he spent two weeks as the liaison officer to the South Carolina National Guard during Hurricane Florence. He currently serves as the Executive Officer for the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Charlotte.

Personal life[edit]

Gebhardt is married to his high school sweetheart of 20 years, Carrie, who works as a nurse in Fayetteville, and they have three young daughters.
