Gregory Boyle (psychologist)

Gregory Boyle PhD, DSc (born 1950) is an Australian and American-educated academic psychologist whose work has contributed to the field of personality theory and assessment.

Career[edit]

Boyle holds a DSc from the University of Queensland, a PhD from the University of Melbourne, and a separate earned PhD from the University of Delaware.[1][2] His academic career has been at the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, and subsequently Bond University on Australia’s Gold Coast, where he was Professor of Psychology for two decades and Associate Dean for Research for several years. Currently, he is an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Head of School at the Australian Institute of Psychology.[3]

Scholarship[edit]

Boyle is best known for a number of writings and international handbooks on the psychology of individual differences, personality theory and assessment, psychological and clinical neuropsychological assessment, and measures of social-personality constructs.

Honors[edit]

In 2004, Boyle was elected Fellow of both the Australian Psychological Society, and the American Psychological Society (now Association for Psychological Science).[4][5] In 2005, he was recipient of the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements Distinguished Reviewer Award.[6] In 2006, he was recipient of the higher doctorate - DSc, based in part on his research collaborations over two decades with Raymond Cattell[7] and Hans Eysenck.[8] Boyle also collaborated with Carroll Izard at the University of Delaware, undertaking several studies with the Differential Emotions Scale (DES-IV). He has given invited lectures at many prominent universities, including Oxford, Princeton, and Stanford.
