Grietje Veenstra (born 1863 – died after 1941) was a Dutch female kortebaan speed skater from Wirdum, Friesland.[1]
In the Dutch book “Vrouwen in de Hardrijdersbaan”, about the Dutch women's speed skating history, Veenstra is described as one of the main speed skaters in her era.[1]
At individual competitions, she won prizes, amongst others, between 1891 and 1897 in Weidum, three times in Leeuwarden, Akkrum and twice in Terhorne. Between 1890 and 1901 she won at least 20 prizes, along with Sietse D. van der Schaaf from Grouw in pairs competitions. Later, between 1894 and 1901, she won approximately 10 prizes with Merk Kingma from Grouw.[1] They won prizes in, amongst other locations, Grouw (8 January 1884), Balk (21 January 1884), Jorwerd (22 January 1884), Leeuwarden (6 February 1897), and Grouw (5 January 1901). [2] With Tj. Zijlstra from Grouw, she won first prize in Wolvega in 1897.[1]
Veenstra married around 1890.[1]
