Griffin Oskar (born Griffin Oskar Fornell; March 4, 1994) is an American-Swedish singer, songwriter and record producer. Born in Portland, Oregon, in his early youth, Oskar played violin for eight years but found commercial success after switching to guitar, piano, and began producing his own songs.[1]. Oskar gained critical acclaim after releasing his 4-song EP Hostage on Republic Records. Oskar has also written and produced records for other artists, including “All Night” by Big Boi (feat. LunchMoney Lewis) and “Like I Love You” by Lost Frequencies (feat. The NGHBRS).

Career[edit]

In 2015, Griffin Oskar self-released a track called "Hostage"[2] under the artist name Småland to Soundcloud. The song gained the attention of Swedish EDM producer Danrell who then collaborated on a remix to the song. The collaborative effort, "Danrell x Småland" went off to generate more than 2.8 million views on YouTube, more than 24 million streams on SoundCloud, and topped Spotify's Viral 50 chart. Oskar was featured as a top artist to watch by the popular music blog, Idolator (website) [3] and subsequently landed a recording deal with Republic Records.

Oskar signed a recording contract with Republic Records in 2016 and on February 3, 2017 released his debut EP Hostage[1]. The Hostage EP was received with high praise [4] and generated more than ten million streams on Spotify.

In 2017 Oskar co-wrote and produced Big Boi’s highest-charting solo single “All Night,” which peaked at #25 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart[5], and at #10 on the Billboard Rhythmic chart [6]. Later that year, the song was featured in the TV commercial “Animoji Yourself”[7] [8] for the iPhone X and the Apple Watch Series 2.

On April 20, 2020, Oskar released his first single as an independent artist, "We Don't Get High (Like We Used To)"[9] and on June 5th he released his second single, "Answer".

Griffin Oskar is currently signed to Los Angeles-based music publisher Prescription Songs.
