GRYOnline is a group of Polish websites dedicated to computer games and electronic entertainment. Their content includes reviews, walkthroughs, video clips and industry-related news. Besides video games oriented materials, the websites publish articles about popular series and movies. The group includes GRYOnline.pl, TVGry.pl, Gameplay.pl and GamePressure.com presenting the content of GRYOnline.pl translated into English. The GRYOnline group is operated by GRY-OnLine S.A., a company which has been led by Mariusz Klamra since 2002. In May 2011, GRY-OnLine S.A. became a part of NFI Empik Media & Fashion S.A.[3] The company hires almost 100 people, including full-time employees and contractors.[3]

GRYOnline.pl[edit]

GRYOnline.pl, the most important asset of the group has undergone a few transformations (the most recent took place in 2012) since its debut (1 January 2001). Łukasz Malik has been its editor-in-chief since 2005. The editorial office is based in Kraków. GRYOnline.pl publishes information and articles about computer and console games. The console games section does not limit itself to the most popular devices (e.g. Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS), but includes the older types as well (e.g. Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance).

History of GryOnline.pl[edit]

The history of GRYOnline.pl goes back to 2000 when GRY-OnLine sp. z o.o. was registered. Mariusz Klamra, Wojciech Antonowicz and Rafał Swaczyna founded the company altogether with Janusz Burda and Tomasz Pyzioł. The website was launched on 1 January 2001 and soon after its debut, Przemysław Bartula, Michał Bobrowski and Marcin Hajek joined the team.[2] The idea behind the project was to deliver content unavailable on the Polish Internet. The editors focused on a game encyclopedia and complex walkthroughs, today's main pillars of the website.

Game Encyclopedia[edit]

The Game Encyclopedia, a pillar of GRYOnline.pl includes descriptions, screenshots, video files, release dates, system requirements and PEGI rating of 23.372 games (as of 10 July 2014[4]). This section includes game ranks, a catalogue of game developers and publishers (Polish and international), and a vast gallery of screenshots and concept art. Each encyclopedic entry redirects to GOL Video, a collection of video files related to the game (trailers, teasers, gameplay, interviews with developers, etc.). The encyclopedic entries also lead to news, reviews, previews or recommended similar games.

Walkthroughs[edit]

GRYOnline.pl publishes complex game walkthroughs that include game strategies, maps, achievements, tips and tricks and other useful information. The walkthroughs are packed with screenshots, graphic charts or video files.[5]

News Centre[edit]

The News centre section includes Newsroom, a section publishing news from the gaming industry. Moreover, reviews are an important element of the News Centre (each game receives 1-10 points), just as previews or articles about various game series or industry trends.

Forum[edit]

Since the launch of the website, Forum has been one of the most important sections of GRYOnline.pl. Users communicate there with other game fans, but also with the website's editors. The millionth post was published two years after founding the website,[6] whereas the most active users have published over several thousand posts. In March 2014, Forum had almost 600k threads with over 12 million posts.[7]

Game of the Year[edit]

The Game of the Year title is awarded to a game selected by users. The first award was given in 2006. The website held similar competition earlier, but under a different name (Plebiscyt GOL, GOL ASY).

The competition organized in 2011 saw The Witcher, a game developed by CD Project RED being awarded the Game of a Decade (2001-2011) title. It left behind games such as Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Gothic and Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven.[19]

Subscription[edit]

In April 2002 GRYOnline.pl introduced a subscription for accessing some of its content. No advertisement banners are displayed to users paying the subscription fee. Moreover, such users can take part in special competitions, but most of all, they can access walkthroughs and articles without any restrictions.

TVGry.pl[edit]

TVGry.pl is a Polish channel dedicated to video games. It debuted on 29 July 2009, accompanied by a split within the company and foundation of a separate editorial office. The channel broadcasts shows, reviews, summaries, fair coverage, etc. The channel attracts users with many shows, e.g. Facepalm, FLESZ, Gramy!, Gry z kosza, Liczę na glicze, Przegląd Tygodnia, Redakcja na wizji, Ryk Premier, Samiec alfa, W rytmie gier and Zew Japonii.
