Guillaume Roussel (born March, 18 1980) is a French composer of film and television scores[1], based in Santa Monica, California.[2][3]
Early life and Career[edit]
At the age of 5, inspired by his grandfather, composer and director of the Bogota Conservatory [4][5][6], Guillaume Roussel started his studies in piano. He studied harmony, fugue and counterpoint, at the National Academy of Music in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés until 1998, and then diversified his influences studying improvised music at the CIM[7] in Paris and at Didier Lockwood's School.
From a very young age, he began composing music in an orchestra style[8][9]. In 2006, he conducted his own music, performed by the London Philharmonia Orchestra at Abbey Road. Guillaume then revealed his talents as a composer through his first feature, "Tomorrow is Today"[10] and received an award for 'Best Score' at the California Independent Film Festival.
In 2009, he composed the music for the short film Lady Noir[11] for Dior, starring Marion Cotillard;
In 2010, Hans Zimmer invited him to join the Remote Control team. Roussel composed additional music for American films such as "How do you know" directed by James L. Brooks, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" by Rob Marshall, or "The Smurfs" directed by Raja Gosnell, and participated in writing the music for the 84th Academy Awards in 2012. During this time he also composed for video games ("Shrek Forever After", "Rango") and advertising.
Guillaume Roussel composes for many TV Projects such as "The Spy" (Netflix) directed by Gideon Raff, "Happy!"[12] (Netflix) directed by Brian Taylor or the upcoming BBC Two / Canal+ show Marie Antoinette, a historical drama television series created and written by Deborah Davis.
His recent projects include The Stronghold (BAC Nord)[13] by Cédric Jimenez, for which he was nominated for the 47th César Awards for best original score, Black Beauty[14] [15][16][17][18][8][19] by Ashley Avis for his first collaboration with Disney and The Takedown[20] for Netflix directed by Louis Leterrier.
In 2022, he was chosen by Martin Bourboulon and Dimitri Rassam to write the music for the diptych the Three Musketeers [21] [22][23]
Roussel studio is still based in Remote Control, Hans Zimmer’s studio facility.
