History[edit]

Gunster began in 1925 as a solo practice of John Kenneth Williamson in West Palm Beach,[13] moved in 1942 to Palm Beach, in 1985 moved back to West Palm Beach, and opened a Palm Beach office in 1995.[14] The Palm Beach office is designed and furnished to make the firms' wealthy, private clients feel at home.[14]

By 1970, the firm had 10 attorneys. In 1989, the firm became Gunster Yoakley and had 55 employees. In 1990 it merged with the Broward County firm of McCune Hiaasen Crum Gardner & Duke, and grew to 80 attorneys.[3][13] In 1994 it merged with the Miami firm Valdes-Fauli, Bischoff, Kriss & Mandler, growing to 110 attorneys and 300 other employees.[15] By 2003 when Gunster acquired Miami's Furia Law Firm, making Arthur J. Furia a shareholder, Gunster had grown to over 120 attorneys.[16]

By 2006, it had 130 attorneys and six offices.[2] As of 2013, the firm had 175 attorneys and 11 offices.[17]

The firm expanded to Tampa in 2012.[17] In 2013, the firm expanded to Orlando. The practice there is focused on legal issues including governmental law.[18]
