Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter is a law firm based in Orlando, Florida. Attorneys at the firm accept a wide range of cases, including personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, product defect, workers’ compensation, and securities and stockbroker fraud.

History[edit]

The firm was founded in 2005 by partners Stewart Colling, Ronald Gilbert, Melvin Wright, and Nathan Carter.[2] Gilbert and Colling were former partners at the law firm Morgan Colling and Gilbert, the largest personal injury legal practice in Florida, before leaving to found Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter.[3]

The founding partners originally opened offices in Maitland before relocating in 2007 to the 801 North Orange building in downtown Orlando.[4] As of 2015, the top floor of 801 North Orange remains the firm headquarters.

Stewart Colling died after suffering a heart attack in April 2009.[5] The firm has continued use of the Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter name after his passing.

In June 2013, Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter released a free app for Android and iOS that aids users in the event of an auto accident. The app includes a portable checklist of do’s and don’ts after the collision, as well as camera and notepad features, GPS locator, and instant access to emergency services and legal assistance at the firm.[6]

As of June 2015, the firm employs 12 attorneys.[1]

Notable Cases[edit]

Colling Gilbert Wright & Carter represented 50 clients who suffered injury due to the meningitis outbreak linked to tainted steroid injections manufactured by New England Compounding Center (NECC).[7] Wright co-chaired the Florida subcommittee of the plaintiffs’ steering committee for multi-district litigation against NECC, and also sat on the eight-member Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in federal bankruptcy court which reviewed and approved a $200 million settlement for victims of the tainted steroids as part of the company’s bankruptcy proceedings.[8]

Gilbert represented the mother of a 12-year-old girl who died after a pediatrician failed to diagnose long QT syndrome. A jury returned a verdict of $7.5 million in May 2014 in favor of the girl’s mother.[9]

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Florida settled a wrongful death suit in 2007 for $500,000 with the family of an inmate who died after being strapped to a restraint chair.[10] Carter represented the family in legal action against the Sheriff’s Office.
