GuruBochon (Verses of a spiritual person) is an all-purpose Bengali website, which was started in 2012. This website contains several features like Bengali one-liners, tutorials on magic, photography, general and political satires, fictional news, short stories, comic strips, cartoons etc. This is an extended version of a web-magazine.

Origin

GuruBochon was started on July 23, 2012, in the form of a Facebook page. This was a time when the trend of Bengali literature was moving towards the creation of a crispier piece of work, and that was the idea behind the origination of one-liners. In keeping with the trend, they started creating original one-liners. GuruBochon introduced their website on February 23, 2013.

Bengali Literature has been undergoing a change in terms of the nature of its content since the last decade.[1] From novels and short stories, it has been moving towards Anu-galpo, the miniature form of short story and one-liners.[2] In keeping with this, GuruBochon has started to design original one-liners. Their contribution has been noticed by Ananda Bazar Patrika, a daily newspaper, which featured a special section on 26 January 2013, about the changes in trend of Bengali Literature, and the contribution of one-liners in this trend. The scope of these one-liners encapsulated the political domain, as well. On 28 March 2014, a feature came in this edition of Ebela about various posters on political satires being featured in Facebook. The team of GuruBochon talked about the background of one-liners that are being created and circulated among the readers.[3] Few months later, during the period of FIFA World Cup 2014, a special edition of Ananda Bazar Patrika was published on 7 July 2014, in which several cartoon strips and one-liners floating across the internet and social media were posted. The one-liner created by the team GuruBochon on the mishap created by Suarez during the match between Italy and Uruguay was featured in this edition.[4]

Apart from the literary contribution, GuruBochon was involved in social activities as well. A feature came in the 4 October 2013 edition of Ebela, regarding three Facebook page pages, namely GuruBochon, Aranyer Prachin Probad, and Kalipatka Dodoma coming together for saving the life of Ripan Mondal, a software professional, who was suffering from Chronic myeloid leukemia.[5] These three teams collected funds for assisting Ripan in his treatment. This was the first social initiative of GuruBochon.

Presently, GuruBochon is featured in Friends FM, one of the FM stations in Kolkata. They have become the official promotional partner of GuruBochon on July 15, 2013. From July 15, 2013 to May 15, 2014, they have featured GuruBochon daily from 11:00 AM to 11:05 AM, and during this period, the best one-liner of the day is aired.
