Mozart VW/Porsche Audi Palo Alto, Ca

Gus Mozart (November 20, 1919 – February 28, 1994) was one of the first Volkswagen dealer in California, and later owner of the larger VW Porsche Audi franchises in the western United States from 1960 to 1976.

Starting our as a Ford dealer in 1949 in Half Moon Bay, Ca he later opened a Hudson dealership in Los Altos Ca which closed in 1955.[1] In the late 1950's Mozart was approached by VW to market the new beetle. He moved operations to Palo Alto and partnered with Amil Pardee and later on his own. In 1968 He expanded operations to just off of US 101 in Palo Alto, Ca. He retired as a Rolls Royce dealer in 1982. A car man from the old book, he smoked a cigar and walked with a produced limp...huge at 6'5. His philosophy was simple for the business, "The customer is king and has to be taken care of properly".

Gus Mozart was born in Santa Barbara Ca and was the son of August Mozart Sr who was silent day movie actor and musician, his mom Adelaide was a homemaker. In the late 1930's Gus Met Myrtle Mozart and they married in 1940, she was from Harlan Kentucky. They had 4 kids, John, Sandra, Mark & Augie (August). Truly this man was the last of the great era of automotive dealerships.
