Gutsaw is an American goregrind band from Corona, California that was formed in 2003.[1]. Originally called Hatchet Face, the band changed its name as a result of a complete stylistic overhaul, moving towards a more brutal style integrating many forms of extreme metal such as death metal, gore metal, grindcore, and black metal. The current Gutsaw lineup is Necro Nick on Guitar and Vocals, Davy on Bass and Vocals, and Mark on Drums.
History
Formation and Early Years
Gutsaw was formed in 2003 when a grindcore band Hatchet Face (2001-2003) decided to completely overhaul their style. At the time of the formation of Gutsaw, the lineup was Necro Nick, Dave Ingram, and Keith Pierce. Setting out to play the most brutal goregrind possible, Gutsaw began writing their first album, as well as reworking Hatchet Face songs to be more in line with their new style. Gutsaw spent the early years playing locally around Corona, especially at the beloved venue, The Showcase Theatre, in Corona, CA[2].
Styles and Influence
Gutsaw draws influence from all forms of extreme metal, incorporating Death metal, Black metal, Grindcore, and even Crust punk. Likewise, many bands have been an inspiration but most notably Impaled, Exhumed, Skinless, Gorerotted, and Wormed.
