$pacely born Elorm Kabu Amenyah, is a Ghanaian hip-hop and Afropop rapper, singer and songwriter. He achieved popularity with his song "Digits (Remix)" ft. Kwesi Arthur, and for being a member of the charting music collective La Même Gang.[1]

Early life

$pacely was born in Accra, Ghana and shortly relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where he learnt to speak French fluently.[2] In 2012, he returned to Ghana and in high school formed a music group with friend ArtSoul Kojo.[3] He came up with the moniker $pacely after his favourite cartoon character Mr. Spacely from The Jetsons, because of his love of space and futuristic themes.[4][5]

Career

In 2016, $pacely met prominent Ghanaian music producer Kuvie and recorded his first single "Love on Drugs" featuring Darkovibes. This introduced him to an enclave of artists who were all recording at Villain Sounds studio. Eventually after developing friendships and mutual respect for their music, he along with Darkovibes, RJZ, Kiddblack, NXWRTH and KwakuBs formed the collective La Même Gang, which is French for 'the same gang'.[6]

In 2017, he released his single "Digit$" and collaborated to release La Même Tape, the first EP of the collective. The EP reached No. 1 on the Apple Music charts in Ghana[7], and broke them out on the public scene. It was soon followed by a highly successful rave concert Crusade, which has become their annual spectacle.[8]

2018 saw him collaborating with many people in the industry such as R2Bees, Joey B, Pappy Kojo, Sarkodie and Magnom, and by 2019 he had earned along with the other members of his collective, five nominations at the VGMAs (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards)[9] and six nominations at the 3music Awards.[10] La Même Gang's second EP Linksters was also released in 2018 to much critical acclaim.[11]

He announced the forthcoming release of his debut EP Fine$$e or Be Fine$$ed in 2019. The first single off the EP was released in June titled "Yawa" featuring Kofi Mole and was well received as a sturdy trap collaboration.[12][13]

Tours and notable performances

$pacely is noted for his highly energetic performances involving mosh pits and has performed at Detty Rave, Afrochella, Rapperholic, Ghana Rocks, Pent Hall Week, Tidal Rave, Boiler Room[14][15] and many others. The gang's Crusade has become a well renowned scene attracting the hip-hop crowd from all over the world to Ghana in December.[16]
