Biography[edit]
Beckers started out as an engineer for the Solvay Institute of Sociology. He was a volunteer and resistance fighter in World War II. In 1948, he married Denise Vieujant, whose grandfather was one of the founders of the Delhaize Group. The couple had six children, including Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant.
Following his marriage, Beckers worked for the Delhaize Group, where he made a career. The company became a multinational corporation with Beckers serving as Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Aside from Delhaize, Beckers worked for Assicurazioni Generali, Fabricom, and Paribas.
In memory of their son, Claude, Beckers and Vieujant founded the Claude Beckers Association, a charity for children with traumatic experiences. Claude died piloting a plane near Hannut.
In 1996, Beckers was knighted and became an official Belgian nobleman. His motto was Cum Deo ad homines.
