Guy Spence

Guy Spence is a former Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast (2015–16) and a Member of Belfast City Council representing the Castle District Electoral Area (2011–Present).

He was educated at the Belfast Boys' Model School located on the Ballysillan Road and studied politics at the University of Ulster.

Belfast's Youngest Councillor

In 2011 he became the youngest ever individual to be elected onto Belfast City Council at the age of 19 with 946 first preference votes. At the time he was elected, he was studying for his politics exam and had said he “will be studying politics during the day and practicing it at night”. [1]

Death Threats

In 2012 he was targeted by dissident republicans with a death threat. He commented on the social network site Twitter: "Today's threat against me by republicans will in no way deter me from continuing the work I've been doing for the people of north Belfast." [2]

Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast

He became Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast on 1 April 2015 at the age of 23, becoming the youngest individual in Belfast to hold civic office. During his term he focused on sport – particularly referencing the Belfast boxing community, music, and championing diversity as a young civic leader. His term ended on 1 June 2016. He was appointed as an Alderman of Belfast, a title he still holds. [3]
