HX (Max Sev) is a hip hop producer from Moscow, Russia. He is best known for his jazz-influented beats and collaborations with underground artists. He's considered one of the most influent producers in modern hip hop.[1] UGH included him in their "best jazz rap producers" list.[2]

Biography[edit]

Max Sev was born in Moscow, Russia, but spent majority of his life in a quiet village in Moscow Oblast. He is familiar with music since childhood years: he used to play piano and other musical instruments. He admits that inspired him to produce beats in the future.

Career[edit]

Max Sev started his career in 2012 as a hip hop producer. He mixed his own beats with hip hop acapellas and uploaded them to various internet sources. However, his old beat tape got lost, and he had to start everything from scratch. In 2013 he began to record his first album, The Change. He also founded a netlabel MAXVOL HOUSE, where he uploads his releases.[3]

After the release of "The Change" album, HX made a breakthrough in hip hop and quickly became one of the most significant underground hip hop artists. He recieved more than 200 plays just in a week.

Second album[edit]

Right after the first album release, HX anounced another album called "Stopping Power" is in proress. Max stated the whole album will consist completely of jazz rap, in contrast to "The Change", which had different styles of production. He comments this as a "comeback of jazz rap, exactly how it should be"[4]. The single "Ill Street Blues", which is a remix of Kool G Rap's song, was released on 2nd January, 2014, and it's planned to appear in the upcoming album.

Collaborations[edit]

HX stated that after the release of "The Change" he will be working on different collaboration projects with new underground talents. In January, he produced for rappers like Ashish Kr, Jay Cruz and many more. His current collaboration status with Izrael Shakoor is unknown.

Style[edit]

Musically, he is inspired by jazz, especially bebop, which is shown by his use of samples. He also uses soulful, sad music for his beats, like in songs from his debut album The Change. He also admits he'd like to rap, but wants to get skilled at first.
