Hachiman Asami Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Beppu Japan.[1] It is a Beppyo shrine, or a shrine that is particularly notable in a certain way with a significant history to it.[2]

It is a Hachiman shrine, or a shrine dedicated to the kami Hachiman[3]

The Hachiman Asami Shrine is in Beppu city. It was made in 1196.[1]

Overview[edit]

Visitors see two trees called Meoto-sugi at the shrine's steps. People also name them Mon-sugi.[1]

There is an old camphor tree at the shrine. Next to this tree is a stone. People stand on this stone and look at the tree.[1]

Near the Torii gate are two cedar trees called Meotosugi. Couples walk between these trees.[1]

The shrine has a cobblestone path. There are stones shaped like a gourd and a sake cup on this path.[1]

The shrine has a spring called Mantaro Shimizu. This spring has water. Visitors can take this water.[1]

The shrine offers fortune slips. Some slips are in English.[1]

Cultural significance[edit]

Many people visit the shrine during the New Year. There are stone statues at the shrine.[1]

There are Inari shrines at the area. Some are near the main hall and a pond called Shinjiga-ike.[1]
