Mohd Hafiz bin Md Hanif (Jawi: محمد حفيظ بن مد حنيف; born 20th August 1984) is a Malaysian academic known for his many contributions in the Malaysian education sector, notably in the field of educational technology. He is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Human Development, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Perak, Malaysia. He is known to be vocal about the integration of technology in teaching and learning.[1] and has been invited to many events to speak about the topic. He is the founding member of a Special Interest Group (SIG) known as xEduTech Lab[2], that focuses on the research and development of instructional systems for the benefit of education. [3] He was appointed as the fourth director of Akademi Pendidikan/Sekolah Makmal in 2019, and the Honorary Secretary General for the Malaysian Educational Technology Association (META) in 2020.
He is currently active working on bespoke web-based educational systems for Kelasruum.io and Hack(Edu).Tech projects.
Early Life and Education
He pursued a Bachelor of Education (TESL), a six-year twinning programme between Maktab Perguruan Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani Kedah a teacher training college, and the royal university of education Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Tanjong Malim, Perak from 2002 to 2007. He graduated with 3.38 CGPA. During his years in UPSI, he worked on "Qalam KHAR"[4], a biannual newsletter.
He completed his doctoral degree in 2016 at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, under the supervision of Dr Michael Hammond.[5][6]
Careers
Hafiz started out as an English teacher in one of the government schools near Kulim, Kedah. He then proceeded to serve Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris as a tutor in 2009, before continuing his postgraduate masters and doctoral degrees in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Upon completion of his Ph.D studies, he was offered the senior lecturer position.
Apart from his job as an academic, Hafiz also pursued other professions on a part-time basis. He once ran a wedding photography and videography service[7] the ClicKapture Studio circa 2009 until 2011. In 2015, he started to work as an Academic Technologist Project Developer at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, while doing his doctoral degree. He was part of the Digital Humanities team at Warwick. He worked on some of the most notable research-based website projects that showcases research data and findings to the public. His works include:
- The People's History of the NHS[8][9] (now a segment under BBC Four [10]).
- The British Black and Asian Shakespeare.[11][12]
- The Hispanic Liverpool Project.[13][14]
- The Last Stand: Napoleon 100 Days in 100 Objects.[15]
In 2019, he was promoted as the Director of Akademi Pendidikan/ Sekolah Makmal, a centre that focusses on the establishment of a school in UPSI campus.

Awards & Recognition
King's Scout (2001)
In 2001, Hafiz was awarded the highly coveted King's Scout award, delivered by the then Governor of Malacca, Syed Ahmad Shahabuddin. This award is the highest award of the Scouts Association of Malaysia (PPM). The King's Scout Certificate is signed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia and all the sultans in Malaysia[26]. Hafiz was part of the Sea Scout platoon registered under MRSM Terendak.
