MembersPooya Khorramyar

Hairydreams is the pseudonym of Pooya Khorramyar (Persian: پویا خرم یار, pʊja kʰɔæmjɑ), an Iranian rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and musician currently living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was the former singer and guitarist of the Iranian Punk Rock band Cheshme3vom[1][2][3][4] (Persian: چشم سوم, ʧɛʃmɛ sɛvom). After leaving Iran in 2010, he started his solo work and published his music[5][6] under the pseudonym of Hairydreams.

History[edit]

Early Life[edit]

Pooya was born in Tehran the capital of Iran. None of his family members were involved with any musical activities. At the age of 20, he started to learn electric guitar as his very first musical instrument, and years later when he joined a band, he focused on his singing skills.

2006 to 2010: Music activities in Iran[edit]

In the year 2006, Pooya and three other friends formed a punk rock band in Tehran and named it Cheshme3vom. Between the years of 2008 to 2010, the band mainly focused on writing and rehearsing originals in various studios. However, the easy-to-understand lyrics in Persian language and the release of the band's only single with the title of Pool (Persian: پول, pʊl) grabbed the attention of music critics. During this period, the name of the band included in several online music magazines and some reviews were written about it.[2][7][8][9]

After almost four years of rehearsing, Cheshme3vom prepared for its first live gig on 6th and 7th of May, 2010 at the Tehran Institute of Technology (Persian: مجتمع فنی تهران, moʤtæmæ fæni tɛhrɒn) located in Sa'adat Abad, Tehran. On the first day of concert, Cheshme3vom and another Persian rock band with the name of -2 (Minus 2) performed with no particular problem. However, on the second day, while tickets were sold out, the show canceled by the authorities with no prior notice. A couple of months after this event, Cheshme3vom disbanded in 2010.

2010 to Present: Leaving Iran and solo work[edit]

After leaving Iran in Jun 2010, Pooya begins his solo work under the pseudonym of Hairydreams. His very first release was an album with the title of Roots in Water (Persian: ریشه ها در آب, riʃɛhɒ dær ɒb) which was a collection of his old compositions with Persian lyrics. After this album, all Hairydreams recordings are released with English lyrics.

Hairydreams is producing his music under his label. Other than songwriting and music arrangement, he is involved with audio recording, mixing, and mastering. Due to the independent production of music, Hairydreams established the Hairydreams Records record label to publish his music under this name.

Musical style[edit]

Hairydreams music style is mainly influenced by punk rock, indie rock, and alternative rock genres. This diversity can be heard by comparing different releases in the past years. Songs like Tell Me Why and Almost Nothing are very close to the hardcore punk while other singles such as One Last Bullet and We Are All Humans are entirely different.

Lyrics[edit]

Hairydreams lyrics, in both Persian and English languages, mainly express the relationship complications, social alienation, phobia, and difficulties he had encountered during his life. The lyrics of the tracks in the album Story of a Runaway conveying the social and political events that he confronted before and after leaving Iran.
