Başar who gave his first concert when he was ten years old, is known as the youngest jazz pianist of Turkey.[1] He released his debut album called On Top Of The Roof on the London-based Ubuntu Music record label in 2019.
Life[edit]
He was born on August 30, 2004 in İstanbul. His father is jazz guitarist F.Hakan Başar. He started to play piano when he was eight. After some ephemeral private lessons he has continued his studies with his father. He continues his education at Pera Fine Arts High School. He gave his first concert within 5th Pera Music Festival that was organized at his current school.
He has played gigs within various events with projects such as "Tribute to Michel Petrucciani","Tribute to Oscar Peterson & Keith Jarrett" etc. His first records were fulfilled at the end of 2015 at Istanbul Technical University MİAM Studios. He performed within Istanbul International Jazz Festival when he was twelve years old.
In 2017, he has taken part in event of International Jazz Day, Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival, 7th Pera Music Festival and Ankara Jazz Festival after Akbank Sanat Young Talent Concert, İzmir European Jazz Festival, Istanbul International Jazz Festival Press Meeting, Remembrance Night of Ahmet Ertegün. He has appeared two times as guest artist within Kenan Doğulu's concerts at Harbiye Open Air Theatre. Then he gave concerts within Istanbul International Jazz Festival and 27th Akbank Jazz Festival. Meanwhile, he has met with particularly Chick Corea and then Ron Carter, Russell Malone, Eddie Gómez, Donald Vega. He got a chance for a workshop with Chick Corea before Corea's concert in İstanbul.
His album records that started in February 2018 have been made at Babajim İstanbul Studios & Mastering and were completed in November 2018. Ferit Odman, İmer Demirer, Halil Çağlar Serin and Kağan Yıldız have taken part in these recordings. After these recordings, on 18th October 2019, his debut album called On Top Of The Roof was released with record producer Martin Hummel's support on the London-based Ubuntu Music record label.
In January 2019, Hakan has been İstanbul Metropolitan Orchestra's guest at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall and he took the stage with Hakan Aysev. In April 2019, this time he played a gig with TRT Jazz Orchestra at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. He gave a concert with Ferit Odman and Halil Çağlar serin as Hakan Başar Trio at Akbank Sanat on 22nd May 2019.[2]
He took place in Istanbul International Jazz Festival on 16th July 2019. At the end of July 2019, he became a member of Ellora Management whose president is Laura Hess-Hay Jamal upon approval of the jazz legend Ahmad Jamal. On 15th November 2019, his first significant international concert was at PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho within EFG London Jazz Festival. This concert had press coverage in UK. Mike Collins from London Jazz News did an interview with Hakan.[3] In addition, his album tracks have been broadcasted for weeks on Jazz FM (UK) ,which is one of the most outstanding jazz radio channels in the world.
