Hakim Arif is a Bangladeshi author and researcher who is professor of Communication Disorders at the University of Dhaka and director general of International Mother Language Institute.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Education[edit]
Hakim Arif completed bachelor and masters in Bengali Language and Literature at University of Dhaka respectively in 1990 and 1991.[7] He also completed Masters in Linguistics from University of Groningen and a PhD degree from the Technical University of Berlin in 2011.[8]
Career[edit]
Arif started his carrier as a lecturer at the School of Education, Bangladesh Open University in July 1996. He was recruited as a lecturer at the Department of Bengali Language and Literature, University of Dhaka in October 1998 and served there for five years.[7][8] Then he switched to the Department of Linguistics at the same university in 2003. He worked there for 12 years in different academic positions and became the chair in 2013.[7][8] In 2015, he was appointed as the founder chair of the newly established Department of Communication Disorders. He joined the new department on 1 April 2015 and continued till 2 February 2020 Chair.[9] He was appointed as the director general of International Mother Language Institute on 28 March 2022 by the Ministry of Public Administration.[10][11]
Research activities[edit]
Arif does research in Semiotics, Phonetics and Neurolinguistics. His most recent publication is 'A Brief Sketch on the Origin and Development of Pragmatics'.[12][13]
