Halalbooking is the UK registered online travel agency which allows users search and book hotels and villas according to their halal needs.[1] Properties can be filtered by the availability of halal food, no-alcohol policies and ladies-only leisure facilities.[2][3]
History
Incorporated on 3 November 2009, the company was registered first as Crescent Tours Ltd from January 2010 until March 2015, when it took its present name.[4]
The Economist described Crescent Tours in 2013 as a London based travel agent that booked clients into Turkish hotels with separate swimming pools for men and ladies, no alcohol policies and restaurants with halal food. Its founder, Elnur Seyidli, said most of his customers were moderate professionals who wanted "a leisure holiday with morals".[5]
The National in 2016 described the company as a London start-up that had launched its booking platform in 2009. It then listed around 1,000 properties, had 140,000 registered customers and charged an average commission of 15% on each booking. Seyidli, its co-founder and CEO, called it a "halal version of Booking.com".[1]
Reuters reported in 2018 that the company had taken 12,000 tourists to Turkey in 2015 and had almost doubled that number in each of the following 2 years, while arrivals in Turkey overall fell amid security concerns.[6]
Halalbooking was placed 33rd in the 2019 Sunday Times Fast Track 100, a league table of the British private companies with the fastest growing sales, when Travel Weekly reported turnover of £17.6 million and more than 300,000 registered customers in 84 countries.[2] It was ranked 237th in the Financial Times FT 1000 list of Europe's fastest-growing companies in 2020.[7]
KrASIA in 2019 weighed the company's stated ambition of a $1 billion valuation against Similarweb traffic of roughly 300,000 monthly visitors and the $800,000 it had raised at that point.[8]
