Hamid Ibrahim, is a Ugandan born creative executive who focuses on world building and character/creature creation for VFX and animation who has worked on several[1][2] Hollywood film such as The Predator (film), Disney's Dumbo (2019 film) and The Lion King (2019 film).[3] He is a co-founder of Kugali Media, an African entertainment company that focuses on telling stories inspired by African Culture using comic books, art and Augmented Reality.[4]

Personal life[edit]

Hamid was born on 13th July 1993 in Uganda. When he turned one, he moved to Kenya where he spent 9 years. In 2003, he returned to Uganda and lived with his grandmother till he was 18 years old.[5] He relocated to the United Kingdom in 2011 where he graduated with a Bachelors Administration in 3D Animation and Visual Effects from the University of Hertfordshire.[6][2]

Career[edit]

Upon graduation in 2017, Hamid worked at the Electric Theatre for a month before joining Moving Picture Company, where he worked on feature films such as the live-action remake of the Lion King (2019).[7][8]

Together with Ziki Nelson and Tolu Olowofoyeku, Hamid co-founded Kugali Media (a Pan-African entertainment company that tells stories inspired by African culture, using animations, comic books, art, and augmented reality) in 2017 before pursuing it full-time in 2018.[9][5][4][10] Kugali Media was the first animation company to collaborate with Disney Animation to create an animation called Iwaju.
