Hammed Kayode Alabi is a Nigerian social entrepreneur, educator, and advocate for youth empowerment, recognized for his innovative work in education technology and leadership development across Africa.[1] He is the founder and CEO of the Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative (KLCI)[2] and the Skill2Rural,[3] initiatives that have collectively impacted over 8,500 underserved and displaced young people across Nigeria and Africa.[4][5]
He is the only African to be selected for the ImpactAI program of the One Young World Summit[6][7] and a nominee of the 2024 Future Award Africa.[8][9]
Early Life and Education
Alabi was born in Nigeria. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in Human Kinetics from the University of Ilorin, where he graduated as the Best Graduating Student in the 2014/2015 academic session.[10] He furthered his studies by obtaining a Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Africa and International Development from the University of Edinburgh, supported by the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.[11]
Career and activism
Alabi's mission is to help young people in underserved communities have access to education, skills and opportunities.[12][13]
In 2017, Alabi founded Kayode Alabi Leadership and Career Initiative (KLCI), a youth-led organization aimed at empowering young people in underserved communities through education, mentorship, and career development programs.[14] And in 2020, Alabi launched the Skill2Rural Bootcamp, a program designed to equip young individuals with essential 21st-century skills. The bootcamp combines online resources with immersive skills-based training, reaching over 8,500 participants across Nigeria and Africa.[15][16][17]
He has participated and represented Nigeria at high-level meetings such as the One Young World Summit as the only African scholar[18] and In September 2023, he was chosen for the 16-week Western Union Foundation Fellowship powered by the Watson Institute.[19][20] Alabi is a 2024 nominee of the Future Award[21][22]
In July 2025, he won the won the University of Edinburgh Alumni of the year Award for his outstanding public life contributions and youth education impact.[11][23]
